Welcome to this week’s Blonde Intelligence with me Ms. Roni, where I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. This week I am going to touch on branding yourself as an artist. I always artists a question, what are you known for? This question is to see which direction branding should go for endorsements, merchandising, target marketing etc.
If you have any business sense as an artist, then you know that branding is important to you as an artist. You have to think about the places you perform, the audience, what makes you connect with them, what physical item that you can make tangible as an artist. Yes, thumb drives with your music, or selling t shirts is a start, but it has to go beyond that.
One good example 50 cent. He started with an album that was jumping. Then a movie to correlate with the album. Then, on to the shoe line, endorsement from Vitamin Water. Another that comes to mind is E40. He started a rapper and family record label owner. Oh, did he get Sic Wid It. His stage name only made sense to start a liquor line. There are many more, but I will leave it here.
The bottom line is that you as an artist are a brand. How can you make your brand tangible? I interviewed a Platinum Billboard Charting Producer, Morgan Matthews. In his interview his advice was to get around other professionals making money in your field. Artists, get around people who can help build your brand. Your brand is what’s going to make you money.
